Jaedyn Shaw: A USWNT star of the future
It is currently a really exciting time for fans of women’s football in the USA, not only because, after what feels like an eternity, the NWSL is back, but also because the national team is currently undergoing a transition between old and new, with this year’s World Cup likely to be the final waltz for some of their 30+ generation and others starting to step up and show what they can really do.
When looking at who is currently leading that charge to replace the likes of Megan Rapinoe, Christen Press and Becky Sauerbrunn, the obvious names to mention are forwards Mal Swanson and Sophia Smith and defender Naomi Girma, all of whom are likely to feature for their country in Australia and New Zealand barring any injuries being incurred.
However, another player worth keeping an eye on might be San Diego Wave’s Jaedyn Shaw, who has attracted a lot of plaudits during her short time in the NWSL so far and who has continually demonstrated through her high performance levels that she is one for the future.
Initial performances
Shaw made her San Diego debut in July last year, when she started at home to Chicago Red Stars, and it was immediately obvious that she had talent and a lot of promise.
